Hawke’s Bay Medical Research Foundation announces grants
The Hawke’s Bay Medical Research Foundation (HBMRF) is pleased to announce that this year’s grants have been awarded to
the following medical research groups.
The recipients have been judged on their health significance, scientific merit, designs and method, the expertise and
track record of the research team and all have a strong Hawke’s Bay content.
HBMRF President Andrew Wares said: “No advancements in medicine are possible without research. The recipients are
undertaking important medical research including;
• Dr Jonathan Richards – Noise Generation in ceramic total hip replacements
• Professor Innes Asher – Study in childhood asthma, rhinitis and eczema. There are three main themes in this study. 1.
Education. 2. Clinical trial and intervention studies. 3. Other support for ISAAC collaborates. (ISAAC is the
International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood).
• Jillian Simpson – An Investigation into the Health Benefits of Mindfulness based Stress Reduction (MBSR) for people
living with a specific range of chronic illnesses.
Studies like these are improving the standard of health in Hawke’s Bay and indeed New Zealand both now and for future
generations.
The Hawke’s Bay Medical Research Foundation looks forward to the results of this research, and the next round of grants
with great interest.
