Christchurch Hospital Children’s Wards To Benefit From Fresh Future Appeal
New Zealanders have risen to the challenge and raised over NZ$1million in just eight weeks for sick children.
The funds raised through the first ever Fresh Future Appeal will go towards paediatric care in dedicated children’s
wards at Christchurch Hospital, Dunedin Hospital, Waikato Hospital and Wellington Hospital as well as Kidz First
Children’s Hospital, Auckland.
Anne Feld, Child Health Nursing Director of Christchurch Hospital, commented, “Christchurch Hospital is grateful for the
opportunity to be involved with the Fresh Future Appeal. The success of the campaign has been amazing and we are very
thankful to everyone who contributed to it. As a result of the Appeal, we will be able to purchase items that are not in
this year's budget but will nonetheless greatly benefit our patients. Thank you Progressive Enterprises and we look
forward to working together next year."
The Appeal ran across Foodtown, Countdown, Woolworths, SuperValue and FreshChoice stores and support offices nationwide,
with staff organising a broad and imaginative range of fundraising activities including dunking local mayors, sponsored
bike rides, kids’ duathalons, gala days, head shaves (men and women!) and the sale of specially designed eco bags, all
in the name of helping to give sick children a fresh future.
As the Appeal aims to support kiwi kids and their families, the other beneficiary hospitals will utilise the funding for
vital equipment and services. The hospitals’ young patients will benefit from equipment for Dunedin Hospital and Waikato
Hospital; the new Kidz First Community Clinic for Kidz First Children’s Hospital in Auckland and a new Acute Assessment
and Short Stay Unit at Wellington Hospital.
Progressive Enterprises Managing Director, Peter Smith, has been overwhelmed by the total raised and by the collective
enthusiasm shown for the Appeal, “Reaching our $1million target in the first year is just fantastic. This wonderful
contribution to children’s health across New Zealand is possible thanks to our staff, customers and suppliers taking up
the challenge and lending their support.
We look forward to the Appeal being an annual event across New Zealand and are thankful to have an opportunity to help
the communities our stores are part of. ”
