International researcher to speak at HB medical research meeting
Hawke’s Bay Medical Research Foundations 45th Annual Meeting will be held in Hawke’s Bay Hospital’s Education Centre at
5pm on Wednesday 15th November 2006.
The guest speaker will be world renowned Professor Jane Harding talking on “Does Health Research matter for New Zealand”
Voted ‘New Zealander of the Year” by North & South magazine in 2004, Prof. Harding obtained her medical degree at the University of Auckland and went on to Oxford
University as a Rhodes Scholar. After specialist training as a Paediatrician in New Zealand she did postdoctoral work at
the Cardiovascular Research Institute, University of California.
She is currently a Professor of Neonatology and Deputy Director of the Liggins Institute (a research institute) at
Auckland University. She also works as a specialist neonatologist at National Women’s Hospital. Jane’s major research
interests concern the regulation of growth before and after birth of the baby, particularly the interaction between
nutrition hormones and growth in babies.
Prof Harding’s research has been widely published, and she has received many major awards; Fellow of the Royal Society
of New Zealand (2001), Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (2002), Alumni Achievement Award, Faculty of Medicine
and Health Science University of Auckland (2003)
