June Investigate Magazine interview shows the failure of safe-sex promoters
The interview that appears in this month's edition of the Investigate Magazine provides yet more proof of the selective
release of information that is regularly practised by the New Zealand Ministry of Health, The Family Planning
Association, and other promoters of the "safe" sex ethos.
For years we have been subjected to the mantra of "condoms, condoms, condoms" from these organisations, yet information
freely available in the public domain shows that this approach is not only erroneous, but clearly dangerous.
Their consistent failure to release the full facts about the ineffectiveness, and serious flaws of condoms is an
outrage.
In the Investigate interview Doug Lush, from the New Zealand Ministry of Health, fails to acknowledge the studies that
clearly show that condoms are not the "silver bullet" that many people in New Zealand have been lead to believe they
are.
When used correctly, in optimum conditions, condoms can never provide 100% certainty of protection from HIV, yet sexual
abstinence and fidelity guarantee exactly that. If a skydiving instructor offered you the choice of a parachute that
failed some of the time or another that works 100% of the time which one would you choose?
In the Investigate interview the Ministry of Health questions several studies from the highly respected World Health
Organisation that clearly show that condoms, at best, provide minimal protection from some of the most common sexual
diseases.
We also have the startling example of a proven AIDS prevention program from Uganda, where abstinence and fidelity were
promoted ahead of condoms. The results were nothing short of spectacular.
In Just ten years the HIV rate dropped from 15% of their population to merely 5%. The decrease was even more impressive
in pregnant women, where the infection rate dropped from 21.2% to 6.2% in the same time period.
Many other Sub-Saharan African nations, who actively promote condoms as the answer, have almost identical rates of HIV
infection yet none have experienced the amazing HIV reduction rates of Uganda.
How long must New Zealand be plagued by the agendas, lies, and misinformation of those promoting so called "safe" sex in
this country? This is major health issue and they continue to turn a blind eye to study, after study showing that their
methodology is gravely flawed.
If the Ministry of Health, the Family Planning Association, and others were truly interested in offering young people
choice, they would be informing them of the full facts about the serious risks associated with condoms.
Until this happens New Zealanders will continue to be blindly lulled into a false and life-threatening sense of
security.
