CDHB Settles With Lab Workers
The Canterbury District Health Board has today reached a settlement with the Medical Laboratory Workers Union.
The nationwide collective agreement includes 16 DHBs and the New Zealand Blood Service. CDHB Chief Executive Jean
O’Callaghan said Canterbury’s decision to participate in the agreement has averted the threatened nationwide strike next
week.
The strike would have resulted in cancellation of surgery for patients throughout the country and severe disruption to
supplies of blood nationwide.
‘The strike would have compromised patient safety,’ she said.
