Surplus Templeton Land Sale

The Canterbury District Health Board has sold 66 hectares of surplus land at Templeton to Ngai Tahu for a sum in excess of $1.9 million. The proceeds of the sale are to be used for the improvement or development of public health facilities in Canterbury.

Making the announcement, the Chief Executive Jean O’Callaghan said the proposal to sell the surplus land was approved by the Minister last month.

‘The CDHB went through a detailed community consultation process prior to the decision to sell the land. Part of the former Templeton hospital site was used to build the Brackenridge Estate which now provides accommodation for up to 80 intellectually disabled people.’

Mrs O’Callaghan said the balance of the Templeton property hadn’t been used for health purposes since 2000. It was important that it be sold. Being able to put the sale proceeds towards some of the CDHB’s building projects was extremely helpful.
