Weathertightness Summit
A summit of building industry leaders to discuss the leaky buildings issue will be held in Auckland on Friday October 11.
The meeting has been convened by the Building Industry Authority and follows a recommendation of the Overview Group Report into Weathertightness, presented to the Authority earlier this month.
Chief Executive Bill Porteous said the meeting would focus on how the industry can improve its performance in three key respects: the skill level of its people, its building methods and materials, and the need for a greater level of accountability and responsibility in the industry.
Dr Porteous said participants would be asked to come to the meeting with firm ideas and commitments about how they or their organisation would contribute to the resolution of the leaky buildings issue.
“There is a clear realisation in the industry of the seriousness of the issue as well as its complexity. This meeting is an opportunity for the industry to demonstrate willingness to achieving a concerted approach to resolving the matter.”
The industry’s actions will be important contributions to the Government’s initiatives to develop a long-term solution to the problem, said Dr Porteous.
Dr Porteous said invitations would be issued to individuals and organisations from across the building industry and associated sectors such as local government, insurance and banking.
