Dr Hugh Barr Mountaineer, Scientist and Outdoor Recreationist
This is the UN Year of both Mountains and Ecotourism.
Our speaker Dr Hugh Barr, a Mountaineer, Scientist and Outdoor Recreationist and now Regional Councillor is well qualified to address both interrated issues. There will be ample time for questions and discussions and we see this as an opportunity to highlight the issues that will arise during the year.
Do come and support the Association. We need you and your ideas. While we have a nominal Council willing to stand again we would welcome new members. Nomination forms will be available at the meeting or by emailing me at rhalliday@paradise.net.nz.
The awarding of the Nobel peace prize to the United Nations and the UN Secretary General, is a recognition not just of the need for such a body but for the very real contribution it is making to so many often very difficult issues in this increaingly globalised world.
The UNA is the peoples movement for the UN and through education programmes, dialogue with decision makers and through our world body WFUNA, seeks a stronger more democratic UN system.
Join us if you can and bring a friend. Light refreshments will be served from 5.30 pm
