Partnership delivers at
Child, Youth and Family
"The significant pay increases for Social Workers and a new Collective Agreement at Child, Youth and Family secured by
the PSA are very pleasing and come after months of hard work," says PSA National Secretary Richard Wagstaff.
"This has been delivered through a 'Partnership for Quality' approach to union/management relations, that is by jointly
addressing the concerns of Child, Youth and Family and PSA members".
"The results speak for themselves - more staff, better pay and conditions and consequently we expect less turnover and
better services to the public."
"We knew there was no sense in the union just taking an adversarial position and demanding more money for the sake of
it. The department shared our concerns and so did the Government about the low rates of pay and high staff turnover. We
all recognised that better pay was an essential part of the mix for professionalising social work and improving the
quality of service."
"This example demonstrates that the PSA's Partnership for Quality does deliver good outcomes for PSA members, the
public, management and the Government" concluded Richard Wagstaff.
