Quarterly Review of Comparative Hospital and Health Service Performance to 30 September 2000
THE Ministry of Health has published the Quarterly Review of Comparative Hospital and Health Service Performance for the
three months to 30 September 2000.
The report says surveys of both inpatients and outpatients treated by Hospital and Health Services (HHSs) confirm the
pattern of good results. It also says there has also been a further reduction in the rate of hospital-acquired blood
stream infections. The report says the majority of HHSs are breaking even or better, with all but two HHSs covering all
of their operating costs, including the cost of interest, for the twelve months ended 30 September 2000. However, 11
HHSs did not cover the full cost of capital, including the capital charge.

report includes a reference to the appropriate page. The commentary emphasises the longer-term trends at a sector level,
in order to place the individual HHSs' results for the past four quarters in a broader context.
