Mayor Always In Touch

Published: Mon 29 May 2000 09:32 AM
Christchurch's Mayor Gary Moore will soon be on the other side of the globe but he will remain in touch with the city most of the time.
He plans to post regular updates of his activities on his web-site (www.christchurchmayor.org.nz) as he travels around the world. Details of his itinerary can be obtained from his website.
Mr Moore will be attending a Bertelsmann conference in Finland at the conclusion of which he will meet business and industry leaders.
Then he will travel to the UK for a series of business meetings and to attend a service in St Paul's Cathedral, London, to mark the 150th anniversary of the founding of Canterbury. He will represent Christchurch residents at the service that will be attended by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Rt Rev Dr George Carey, British dignitaries and Christchurch representatives. On the remainder of the trip, the Mayor will visit the French village of Le Quesnoy, France.
In Scotland he will meet directors of the Scottish Enterprise Agency, and see urban redevelopment schemes.
In Ireland he will meet executives of the Irish Development Agency, visit the Shannon Free Zone and the National Technological Park at Limerick. He also has appointments in Dublin with Members of Parliament, with whom he will discuss economic development.
The Bertelsmann Foundation will pay for the Mayor's return air fare to Finland and the balance of his costs will covered by the Mayor's travel budget. He will be away for three weeks.
