The Chairman of Maui Development Limited (MDL), Mr Thijs Koeling, announced today details of a three day shutdown of the Maui Gas Field on 12, 13 and 14th of May.
The reason for the shutdown is to replace a valve at the Maui Production Station at Oaonui. This valve has the potential to cause an unplanned Maui outage at some stage in the future if not replaced.
The gas retailing and user industries are exploring ways in which the impact of this shutdown on the public can be minimised following advice from MDL. Large gas users are expected to significantly reduce off-take during this period to ensure there is sufficient supply to meet the reticulation demand. To assist this MDL will allow non-Maui gas to be fed into the Maui gas pipeline system during the course of the shutdown.
The shutdown is scheduled to start at 7.30 am on Friday 12th May. The work will be undertaken 24 hours per day for an estimated 70 hours. Gas production is expected to resume at 5.30 am on Monday 15th May and full gas availability by 9.00 am.
The operator of the Maui Gas Field, Shell Todd Oil Services, is currently refining the plan. Any opportunities to shorten the duration of the shutdown will be implemented.
The shareholders of MDL are Fletcher Challenge Energy (68.75%), Shell (Petroleum Mining) Co. Limited (18.75%), and Todd Energy (12.5%).
