Shell Reacts Angrily To Scaremongering Tactics - Motorists Safe With Shell Fuel
Shell has responded angrily to reports that Australian imported fuel was "suffering power losses" in vehicles outside of
Auckland.
The suggestion was a preposterous one generated by another oil company trying to re-brand an old product.
Shell notes that the AA have acknowledged this in their own statements over the past few days.
Motorists can be rest assured that the petrol which Shell is importing into New Zealand is to the same specification as
the New Zealand refined petrol. Shell fuels also contain additives which enhance car performance, at the same time as
improving fuel economy and reducing emissions.
"Those additives are added to all Shell fuel either side of the Bombay hills."
Shell assures motorists that the quality of all base petrol which it imports meets stringent legal standards set by the
Government.
"Regardless of where Shell New Zealand purchases its base petrol from in the world, the refining specifications are the
same. These specifications limit the concentration of deposit forming compounds called olefins which can be added to
petrol. Shell enhances its imported fuel with its own `secret recipe', a powerful detergent additive which literally
keeps the engine clean. This detergent is added to Shell Ultra and Shell Ultra High, the two grades which New Zealand
motorists put in their cars."
Shell says one of the smaller oil companies was engaging in a desperate attempt to re-brand an existing product, and its
efforts were nothing more than "blatant scaremongering".
"The fact is the performance of our petrol is the same north and south of Auckland. Any suggestion to the contrary is
complete lunacy. Shell's scientists and technicians have developed fuels which are at the cutting edge of engine
technology, as the Ferrari Motor Racing Team attests. Customers can rely on Shell petrol to provide reliable performance
and cleaner running engines."
Shell first introduced additives into New Zealand petrol in 1986. In its constant search for improvement, a new
performance additive was introduced into Shell petrol at the beginning of this year.
