SECRETARY-GENERAL DEPLORES ISRAELI AIR ATTACKS IN LEBANON
The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:
The Secretary-General deplores the Israeli air attacks against civilian targets in Lebanon. He is deeply concerned at the escalation of the hostilities, which resulted in the loss of life during the recent days.
The Secretary-General cannot but note the adverse implications of the hostilities for the Middle East peace process, on which rest the hopes of so many and which should be given every chance to succeed. He calls on all parties to exercise restraint.
