AUSA vs Occupation
Members of the Auckland University Students Association executives for 1999 and 2000 have disassociated themselves from
the occupation of the University's Student Information Centre by a group of activists this after noon.
"Both the Association and the University itself have taken great pains to build up a positive working relationship, and
this action by a small group merely undermines those efforts" said 1999/2000 Education Vice President Sherid Thackwray
"This small group should in no way be seen to represent the majority of opinion, either of students, or of AUSA
executive members" said Ms Thackwray .
Many students are concerned by the actions of the group, whose actions could call into question much of the hard work
which has been done to improve the role of students within this University" said 2000 President elect Kane Stanford.
"Whilst there are, as with any such action, members of the students association involved, this should in no way be
interpreted as AUSA support" reaffirmed Mr Stanford.
The mood amongst many students is one of concern at the extreme tactics of this small group.
