Early Learning Strategic Plan is much needed, says Te Rito Maioha Early Childhood New Zealand
The Early Learning Strategic Plan is much needed work that will help solve persistent issues in the early childhood sector, says Te Rito Maioha Deputy Chief Executive, John Diggins.
‘It’s vital that a more planned approach is taken to the early childhood sector in New Zealand.
‘We’d like to see everyone with an interest in early childhood engage in the consultation that the Ministry of Education is running. In particular, we’re encouraging people to help identify any unintended consequences of what is proposed.
‘Te Rito Maioha will be taking special interest in the bicultural aspects of the draft plan as well as what is proposed for Initial Teacher Education (ITE).
‘Some of our feedback will also be around the need for more definitive timeframes for implementation of the final plan.’
Te Rito Maioha is part of the Early Childhood Advisory Committee (ECAC), which supported the ministerial advisory group that developed the draft plan.
‘We are glad to see that our request to extend the consultation until 15 March 2019 has been taken on board, so people have enough time to give considered feedback,’ says Mr Diggins.
