The Wairoa College Board of Trustees has elected a new chairperson at its board meeting on Tuesday, 27 February.
Karen Burger takes on the role with the support of her fellow board members and outgoing chairperson Angela
Culshaw-Kaisa. Mrs Culshaw-Kaisa who nominated Ms Burger for the position said she was proud to see another strong
female leader take up the opportunity and challenge of being the board chair.
"I know Karen will work hard for our students, staff and the whole community. She has a wealth of knowledge and
expertise that put her in good stead to take on this rewarding role", she said.
Karen is currently the Chief Financial Officer at Quality Road and Services (Wairoa) Limited (QRS). She completed a
Master of Business Administration (MBA) in November 2010 and brings this education and experience to the chairperson
role.
Ms Burger is looking forward to moving the college forward and building on the solid foundations already in place.
"Leadership is practiced not so much in words as in attitude and actions" she said.
“I know there is still much work to be done and I am looking forward to mucking in and achieving positive outcomes for
our school”.
She acknowledged the outgoing chair for her hard work and dedication and thanked her for remaining on the board.
This announcement comes following the recent appointment Wairoa College’s first female principal Jo Vennell who took up
the top spot at the start of 2018.
