Life skills training coming to schools in central North Island
A life skills building programme run by Skylight is going to be offered to schools in the central and eastern North
Island thanks to the support of The Warehouse customers in the region.
Skylight and selected The Warehouse stores have partnered to offer the Travellers programme to schools within the region
and to launch this partnership an add-a-dollar campaign is running this week where customers will be asked at the
check-out if they would like to add a dollar to their purchase with the money raised supporting this initiative.
The Travellers programme, run by trained facilitators in the school environment, guides young people aged 12 – 14 years
through fun activities aimed to build their life skills.
Co-ordinator of the Traveller’s programme, Aileen Davidson says when young people struggle to cope with change emotional
distress may result, particularly if they don't have the skills or support to cope.
“Travellers supports students at school by helping them to develop key life skills. These will enable them to cope with
their thoughts and feelings in situations of difficult change, loss or transition. We are so delighted to have the
support from The Warehouse, as it means we can offer the programme to more schools in this region”.
The Warehouse regional manager Shane Nalder says his stores chose Skylight as their regional community partner as their
Travellers programme is a great asset to young people in the region.
“The Warehouse is committed to supporting families and young people so we are really happy to be able to provide funding
for the fantastic work Skylight does in the community.”
Stores involved in the fundraising campaign include Taupo, Tokoroa, Whakatane, Tauranga Central, Fraser Cove, Papamoa,
Rotorua, Gisborne, Hastings and Napier. As well as the add-a-dollar campaign look out for other fundraising events in
these areas over the coming months.
