Helping Parents To Help Kids Make Good Career Choices
Wintec (Waikato Institute of Technology) is to host a free presentation for parents, students, teachers, employers - in
fact anybody interested in furthering their own training or careers, or informing others about their choices. This
series of events kicks off on Tuesday May 27 at 7:00p.m. on its city Campus in Hamilton.
The event includes a facilitated and highly entertaining programme for anyone considering up-skilling, changing their
career focus, beginning study and parents who are looking for guidance and answers regarding choices, training options
and how to ensure the choices you make are the right ones. Well known educator, presenter and author John Cowan, of
Parent Inc. is expected to be a major draw-card.
Wintec public relations manager Anna Carter said one of the aims of the evening programme is to provide information
before hard decisions have to be made by students about what study subjects to choose at school or in tertiary study.
“We anticipate that while mature students and those contemplating up-skilling, changing career paths will be keen to
attend, it’s a great opportunity for parents to join their teenagers, so they can be better informed and more able to
encourage productive discussion at home. “ The presentation was to be lead by educator, presenter and author John Cowan,
of Parent Inc. She said both groups would find John’s presentation enlightening. The presentation was part of a month of
Get a Life events in the region.
“Skills shortages are a worldwide phenomenon but this local initiative is geared towards providing practical solutions
that would not only enable people throughout the region to make successful career choices but also contribute to the
successful economic development of the region. More information about the Waikato region Get A Life programme can be
