Kids have chance to design a stamp
Young artists looking to make a name for themselves need look no further – a “Design a Stamp” competition launched today
by New Zealand Post offers children the opportunity to have their artwork sent around the globe.
The competition was launched at Greerton Village School in Tauranga by competition judge and celebrated
author/illustrator Lynley Dodd. It is open to all New Zealand school children between the ages of 5 and 18.
New Zealand Post’s spokesperson Greg Thomas said that the competition is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring young
artists to showcase their work all over the country, and indeed the world.
“We are thrilled to have someone as talented and respected as Lynley involved in the judging,” Greg Thomas said.
Lynley Dodd said she was looking forward to seeing the fresh and imaginative artistic ideas of young people throughout
the country captured on a stamp.
”It’s really exciting to be involved in such a fantastic opportunity for children to showcase their artistic skills and
creative talent.”
The theme of the competition is “what Christmas means to you” and the winners will have their designs printed as New
Zealand Post’s 2006 Christmas stamp issue. Ten winners will be chosen in total from six different age groupings.
“These stamps will be seen all over the world as symbols of New Zealand at Christmas time,” Greg Thomas said.
As well as having their designs printed on stamps, winners will also receive a $500 Kiwibank Account, a 2006 Annual
Stamp Album, and a Narnia or King Kong Stamp Collectors Pack. The school of each winning student will receive $1500.
