Business in a Small World
Breaking down barriers across regions, cultures, languages and access to markets is the goal of an exciting three-week competition happening during October and November.
The New Zealand and South Pacific Regional Enterprise Experience (SPREE) applies action-learning principles to raise students’ skills, confidence and experience.
Participants are New Zealand, Australia or Pacific students or people wishing to gain experience in managing relationships at a distance.
Competition teams of eight are developing reports with recommendations and actions to help a business in a remote region to sell its product or service into other regions. Students in WelTec’s Business Communication course are providing a leadership role for each team ensuring that the teams work well, stay motivated and accomplish goals.
Each team has been briefed to develop a report that draws on participants’ cultural, regional and economic perspectives. Team communications will include web-based interactive meeting technology.

"The challenges of international trade are many, but in my experience the most vital is the need to communicate effectively across cultures and across political agendas. If we can give our business graduates - and after all this is the globally-connected Generation Y we're talking about - real-life experiences working with others from the full range of trading backgrounds, then we're really helping to propagate a more mature and effective trading world."
Mike Moore, former Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, former Prime Minister of New Zealand
