Monday 7th April 2003
Tomorrow (Tuesday the 8th of April), the Wellington Teacher Trainees Association will present Marian Hobbs (as MP for Wellington Central) with a placard signed by students demanding that the Fees Maxima [that the government is putting in place] is set at a low level for the next academic year.
"We are demanding that Student Teacher fees be set at a low level to plug the exodus of qualified teachers leaving overseas."
"At the same time however, we are demanding that the Government put money into the system to ensure that the quality is at a high level."
"The Government needs to recognise that these people will be teaching the future of New Zealand and if it wants its "Knowledge Society" then it is going to have to recognise that."
These and more issues and information will be sent out in a full Press Release tomorrow morning. For more information in the mean time, please ring me on 029 325 3660.
The presentation will be made at between 3:15 and 3:45 on the footsteps of Parliament by myself (Greg Henderson, the President of the Association, and Louise Stack, the Vice President.
All media are invited to the presentation.
Also attending the presentation will be the two New Zealand University Students' Association Co-Presidents and the President from the Victoria University of Wellington Students' Association.
