Parents, friends and kids help to progress Gifted Kids Junior High
A second public meeting held last night to discuss ideas for the proposed Auckland school, Gifted Kids Junior High,
attracted a wide range of interest.
Dr Tracy Riley, a Senior Lecturer in Gifted Education at Massey University endorsed the initiative of this project and
spoke in support of the school in providing a niche education for willing learners.
Gifted Kids Junior High, which will operate as a ‘Designated Character School’ under Section 156 of the Education Act
1989, is currently in negotiations and discussion with the Ministry of Education.
The meeting was co-ordinated by parents interested in Gifted Kids Junior High to consider the steps needed to progress
the project.
Parents and children interested in attending this school are developing a set of practical criteria for a collective
approach to see this project to fruition.
“Parents, children and teachers interested in GKJH attended this meeting to think about and articulate their educational
dreams,” say Mrs Pam Hook, Co-principal. “These families are considering the most powerful tools and ways for them to
learn and we hope to facilitate this programme for them.”
