Major Conference On Adult And Community Education 17th-19th May
A major Adult and Community Education (ACE) Conference is to be held in Auckland this weekend that will bring together educators from around the country.
The purpose of the Conference is to celebrate the recognition of the ACE sector as part of the education system by the Government. It is also intended that it will act as a forum for the sector to examine how it can advance the vision for ACE outlined in the Report of the Working Party on Adult Education and Community Learning.
The Conference takes place amidst exciting changes in the sector, spearheaded by the Government. “The Government has established a Reference Group on ACE, recently appointed a Chief Advisor on Adult and Community Education and provided funding to support a number of implementation projects that include broadening educators’ participation in this Conference”, said Judi Altinkaya, Chief Advisor, Adult and Community Education.
Altinkaya also said “the Working Party report has generated high interest and enthusiasm within the ACE sector and this national conference offers a real opportunity for consultation with the sector.”
Jose Roberto Guevara, an experienced adult and community educator in the Asian and Pacific region will be the keynote speaker. Other speakers include: Associate Minister of Education, Marian Hobbs, the new Chief Advisor, Adult and Community Education from the Ministry of Education, Judi Altinkaya and Dr. Andrew West Chairperson of the Transition Tertiary Education Commission (TTEC).
