Hamilton High School Students Appeal For Charity At Xmas
Students from St. Paul's Collegiate will be launching an appeal to the public as well as to students, teachers and
parents within their own school to donate gifts and food to the Waikato food bank to help make a merrier Christmas for
the less fortunate in the Hamilton community.
"Last year the Waikato Food bank was short of around 1000 presents. That means 1000 people like you and me went through
Christmas without receiving any message whatsoever from the public at large that somebody out there cared for them."
Said Dileepa Fonseka, one of the St. Paul's Collegiate students involved in the appeal.
"For most of us Christmas is a day of joy and happiness, for some within our community it is just another day living in
the same appalling conditions as any other day of the year."
"This year we want to improve that situation and grant the less fortunate in our community one day of rest and
happiness."
A main part of this appeal shall be a special Carol Service on Monday the 3rd of December at 7pm in the recently
refurbished St. Paul's Collegiate Chapel. "At this service students, parents, teachers and others attending will place
gifts underneath the tree. These gifts will then be taken straight to the food bank and distributed to the needy at
Christmas time". All members of the media are invited to attend as well as any other members of the community interested
in making someone's day merrier this Christmas.
