Do New Zealand schools’ annual reports make the grade?
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand plans to find out.
It is now calling for entries for this year’s School Annual Reports Awards. The Awards are presented annually by the
Institute, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education.
“An annual report is an important communication tool,” the Institute’s Divisional Director - Member Services, Bev Edlin,
said today.
“Through the Awards, the Institute and the Ministry are seeking to encourage clarity in the presentation of school
information by honouring those schools who produce high quality reports.
“The awards do not necessarily go to schools who have the resources to produce graphically superior documents. The
judges are primarily looking for the content of the report - that all reporting requirements are met and information is
easy to find, read, and understand.”
Because the various types of schools report differently, the Awards are divided into three categories:
- Primary and Intermediate (under 50 pupils)
- Primary and Intermediate (over 50 pupils)
- Secondary Schools and Colleges.
Winning schools receive a certificate to mark their achievement and $1000.
In 2000 the respective winners of the categories were:
- Mapiu School, Te Kuiti
- Tahunanui School, Nelson
- Burnside High School, Christchurch
The closing date for entries for this year’s Awards is Friday, 31 August 2001. The winning schools will be notified in
October.
