LINCOLN LAUNCHES EXPANDED SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME
Lincoln University's 2000 Sports Scholarship Programme has been launched with the naming of 62 scholars from four codes - rugby, cricket, netball and a new one, hockey.
The programme, introduced last year, has brought top sports performers to Canterbury for a combination of academic study and athletic achievement.
Twenty-four of this year's 62 awardees are from rugby, 15 from netball, 13 from cricket and 10 from hockey.
Forty of the scholars are male, 22 female, with women scholars in all four of the codes.
Of the 62 scholars, two more than the inaugural intake last year, 40 are from outside the Christchurch area, with 19 from the North Island.
On the academic side, the bulk will be studying for Commerce and Commerce and Management degrees. Over 20 are doing Lincoln's Recreation Management degree, and there is a sprinkling of enrolments in Science, Landscape Architecture and Agriculture.
