Kiwi actor Vincent Feng cast in Disney’s Mulan remake
Kiwi, Vincent Feng is the latest to join the cast of Disney’s Mulan shooting
in New Zealand and China over the next few months.
Twenty years on from the original cartoon, the feature film is a live action remake of the Disney animated musical from 1998, directed by New Zealand’s Niki Caro, and due for a 2020 release.
Mulan follows the story of Hua Mulan, a young woman who disguises herself as a man so she can take the place of her ageing father when he's conscripted into the military. Vincent’s role requires immense strength, which has seen him undergo intense physical training, focussing on stamina and endurance for the part.
This is the Auckland-based actor’s first feature film who has loved playing pretend since being a child. Both Vincent’s parents are Chinese and moved to New Zealand before Vincent was born. Vincent’s mother came from Hoiping and his father from Enping. Vincent recalls watching Mulan as a child. His favourite character was Mushu, because of his comical nature and the efforts he goes to in order to redeem himself.
The production has been a great journey for Vincent who has a newfound respect for how films are made, and can’t wait to see it come to life on the big screen.
