A warm night of heavenly harmony
Gale Force Gospel will present its popular annual concert at St Andrew’s on The Terrace on Friday 6 July at 7.00pm. The choir promises their audience an evening of heavenly harmony in “Singing up a Storm” - a fun and uplifting performance of great gospel songs.
Founded seven years ago, the choir grew out of a workshop held by well-known New Zealand Gospel song leader Tony Backhouse and, Gale Force continue to sing many arrangements written by Tony. Numbering about 50, the choir welcomes all singers without audition and regardless of previous experience, gender, religion or cultural background. An important part of the burgeoning community singing scene in the Capital, Gale Force Gospel are led by composer and choral leader Carol Shortis.
In addition to their annual concert, Gale Force Gospel perform regularly around Wellington for a variety of audiences in the community. The choir sings primarily African-American Gospel music, interspersed with Gospel songs from other cultures: African, Pacific Island and Maori. www.galeforcegospel.org.nz
