Mountain Safety Council Brings Big Data to Outdoor Safety through an ‘Issue Specific Advisory Group’
Expressions of interest are now open to become part of Mountain Safety Council’s (MSC) first ‘Issue Specific Advisory
Group’ (ISAG). This is a unique opportunity to work in partnership with New Zealand’s lead land-based outdoor safety
prevention organisation to find solutions which reduce the number of alpine hunters involved in falling incidents.
The 'Issue Specific' process uses an evidence based approach to develop targeted prevention initiatives said Mike
Daisley, CEO of the Mountain Safety Council.
“Using an evidence based approach—actual knowledge of safety issues—ensures we’re focusing our collective prevention
resources on topics that need to be solved, rather than what we think needs solving. This approach will enable us to
make the greatest difference to reducing incidents in the outdoors”
“The ‘issue specific’ process allows us to bring together a range of people who can contribute their expertise to help
develop targeted solutions,” he said.
MSC is looking for up to eight people to form a working group, and a diverse range of competencies are required. These
include competencies such as the ability to understand human decision making, including social and psychological
factors, the ability to understand a target audience and develop relevant content and use channels and techniques that
connect with and engage the target audience, and the ability to make evidence based decisions.
