The 2017 NZ Book Festival
Calling all book lovers! The annual NZ Book Festival is coming to Auckland on November 11th at the Mt Eden War Memorial
Hall and is set to be bigger and better than ever.
The NZ Book Festival is an annual event for independently published New Zealand authors to come together and share their
books with readers as well as meet other authors and publishing industry professionals.
First held in 2014 in Devonport on Auckland’s North Shore, the NZ Book Festival began life as an idea by independently
published children’s author Louise de Varga.
“The first book festival was a tentative toe dipping to see if writers and readers would come to an event geared
especially for them. And they did,” she explains.
After the success of 2014, the NZ Book Festival has gone from strength to strength. Now this exciting annual event for
authors and book lovers has firmly established itself on Auckland’s busy event calendar.
Authors and publishing service providers come from all over New Zealand to take part in this once a year celebration of
all things literary.
“I’m heading into my third NZ Book Festival with three published novels under my belt. My third novel, ‘Painted’ just
hit #1 in the Australian Horror charts, peaking at #2 in Horror in both the United Kingdom and Canada, and I wouldn’t
have been able to achieve that without the support and advice of the other authors I’ve met through the NZ Book
Festival,” says acclaimed author Kirsten McKenzie.
This year marks the 4th annual festival and features a range of authors, from children's, to romance to non-fiction.
Entrance is free and authors will be attending with their books, giving attendees the chance to hear about the creative
process, the stories behind the stories, and even get some tips about writing and publishing themselves.
