Upper Hutt Brass Band returns to the Contest Stage
The Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Band Brass Band will return to the Contest Stage on 21stth and 22nd April at the 137th New Zealand Brass Championships being held in Wellington. In addition to the events on stage the band will participate in the Parade of Bands which will be based on the Wellington waterfront behind Te Papa. Bands from all over New Zealand and a band and competitors from Australia will contest during the event.
Due to the cost of travel and accommodation it has not been possible for the band to attend every national contest but being close to home the band will be keen to take advantage of the home venue.
The Upper Hutt band has benefitted from a new Musical Director , Aaron Lloydd and some new musicians .
The President of the National Association, Evan Sayer, an Upper Hutt resident, and Upper Hutt band member is looking forward to hosting the contest in our own back yard as the contest returns to Wellington after an absence of twelve years. All the local bands will be keen to put on a good show and show off the first class venues available in Wellington. It’s expected that there will be over one thousand musicians vying for the various musical titles in addition to the band events.
Solo and ensemble events, featuring world class musicians, will be held at Te Whaea in Newtown with the A and B Grade events in the Michael Fowler Centre and the C and D grade events being held in the Opera House.
