Shane van Gisbergen Turns up the Heat with Smeg
Red Bull Holden Racing driver Shane van Gisbergen has been in searing form on the track this year and now he’ll be turning up the heat in the kitchen, with Smeg.
Shane is at the top of his game, winning the 2016 Virgin Australian Supercars title and the European Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup in 2016. More recently he completed a perfect opening weekend to the 2017 season of the Virgin Australia Supercars series, by winning both races in Adelaide, in stunning fashion.
Now, he has signed to be in control of a set of Smeg kitchen appliances as Australasian ambassador for Italian design house Smeg.
“Shane is a winner on the track and we’re excited that he’s looking to Smeg to lift his performance in the kitchen,” says Jones Family Business founder and Smeg distributor, Mark Jones.
“We admire Shane’s incredible focus, vision and attention to detail on the track and we feel that these very much reflect the values of Smeg; the highest quality kitchen appliances with impeccable design credentials,” he said.
While he isn’t professing any master chef abilities, van Gisbergen says he can perform pretty well in the kitchen on the rare occasions he’s back home from his gruelling racing schedule.
“My steak is pretty decent, but I recognise that I’m a better driver than cook, so having Smeg precision cooking tools in the kitchen will give me the edge next time I’m trying to impress,” he said.
Smeg has had a long association with NZ Drivers and NZ motorsport, with Smeg Racing winning three BNT NZ Touring Car titles (including the current season) and securing runner-up spot in the New Zealand Endurance Championship in the last three seasons.
