Whitireia Community Polytechnic dancers: Paris Evans (Ngā Puhi, Ngāti Maniapoto, Tainui, Samoa) and Krystal Clarke
(Ngāti Porou) stars of the new webseries… POLY MOVEMENT - KAIKANIKANI
MEDIA RELEASE: 29 November 2016
The POLY MOVEMENT - KAIKANIKANI web series will launch with Episode 1 on Tuesday December 6, 2016 @ 7pm NZ time via facebook.com/polymovement101.
This new 8 part web series follows the journey of young, aspiring Māori and Pacific Island dancers from Whitireia
Community Polytechnic in Wellington. These dancers are unique as their repertoire covers Māori, Cook Islands Maori,
Samoan and NZ Contemporary Dance genres. We get to know them intimately and are with them onstage and offstage.
With infectious motivation and commitment these students are role models for the next generation. This series is a
shining example of what can happen when cultural connections are made and performance art forms are nurtured. A creative
spark is ignited, space for development and growth are provided and a foundation of empowerment is established for our
youth - turned leaders.
This Applied Arts degree transforms lives, making true pacific ambassadors of these individuals. This year they
represented New Zealand at three International World folk dance festivals in Portugal. Engaging in an exchange of
cultures from all around the world, we follow alongside the group as they train, perform and travel on tour for a month
in Portugal.
We experience the highs and lows of the group as they deal with the unpredictable challenges of life. The web series
will release an episode a week for 8 weeks until January 24, 2017.
