Kiwi’s shearing record under threat
Another shearing record set in New Zealand is under threat as Irish gun Ivan Scott tackles one of the ultimate goals in
the woolshed.
Shearing at Trefranck Farm in Cornwall, England, and challenging New Zealand shearer Dion King’s World nine-hour record
of 866 strongwool lambs, Scott had recorded 363 in the first 3hrs 45mins, the first two runs up to morning tea break at
8.45pm NSZT (9.45am UK).
It was three less than King had shorn at the same stage of his record in a King Country woolshed in January 2007, but a
split second ahead of the target time per lamb, and shearing at a rate of 37.19 seconds a lamb or 96.8 lambs an hour.
If he maintains the same pace he’ll beat the record by about five lambs, but he has to watch the quality, with three
World Sheep Shearing Records Society judges having already rejected at least two lambs, and marking his first run at
11.7, just inside the threshold of 12.
