Skanda Ganapathi – A Dance Production by Natraj School of Dance
Natraj School of Dance is proud to present an evening of traditional Indian Classical dance performance “Skanda Ganapathi” on 2 July 2016 at 6.30 pm. at Sacred College, Performing Arts Centre, Laings Road, Lower Hutt.
Skanda Ganapathi, a thematic Bharatanatyam classical dance production in praise of Lord Ganesha and Lord Muruga, sons of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi in the Hindu religion.
Over 50 students will be performing in this year’s production. It will be about two hours of performance by children as young as 5 years old to adults. Bharatanatyam is an art that transcends time and age.
This year’s production is supported by Creative NZ. As in the past years, this year’s proceeds will be donated to charities. Some of the past year beneficiaries are Wellington Free Ambulance and Red Cross NZ.
Mrs. Prabha Ravi established Natraj School of Dance, an Indian classical Dance School based in Lower Hutt eighteen years ago. Over these years, Prabha Ravi has trained over five hundred young students and encouraged them to participate in local and national events.
Indian classical dance is not merely moving your body to a rhythm. It is a discovery of your roots, philosophy, mythology, language, culture and many other facets of life. Every child develops one's personality and mind by learning this dance. Many youth have benefited immensely through the dance school in learning this valuable art.
