Charity Race-Bib Auction Gives Participants Chance to Lead From The Front
Participants of Cigna Round the Bays will have a chance to grab pole position at the start line on Sunday February 21 in a unique promotion centred around two race bibs.
Event organisers Sport Wellington will launch the “Bid for the Bib” charity auction by putting two limited edition gold-coloured race-bibs up for auction via Trade Me on Tuesday 2nd February. Race- bibs numbered ‘1’ and also the year ‘2016’ will be available to bid on with proceeds going to Achilles International New Zealand, the official charity partner of Cigna Round the Bays, and the Wellington Regional Sports Education Trust. Whatever their preferred race on the day – the Cigna Round the Bays 6.5km Fun Run/Walk, or the Bluebridge 10km Run or the Cigna Achilles Half Marathon, the two auction winners also win the chance to be in front position on the start line and lead the pack as the race starts.
“We were looking at new ways to raise the profile and also funds for Achilles, who provide an incredible opportunity for athletes with disabilities, and this idea came out as being really appealing, with the sky being the limit.” said Commercial Development Manager Ian Rogers.
Jo Walker, Achilles New Zealand spokesperson, is excited about the idea. “It’s a fun way to recognise someone who will be supporting both Achilles and the race, and will draw a nice spotlight on us.”
Achilles International New Zealand provides New Zealanders with disabilities the opportunity to participate alongside able-bodied athletes in local mainstream events like Cigna Round the Bays, Taupo Half Marathon, the Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington Marathons (and more), as well as the high-profile international New York Marathon.
The auction will run for one week and finish on Tuesday 9th February.
