Cigna Round the Bays date announced for 2016
Sport Wellington and Cigna Life Insurance NZ are excited to announce the date for the 2016 Cigna Round the Bays. Over 14,500 are expected to take part in running, walking, or wheel chairing around Wellington’s iconic bays on Sunday 21st February 2016.
Event organisers Sport Wellington operate with a focus to promote, develop and support sport and active recreation in the Wellington region. The organisation continues to deliver the event each year in a bid to encourage the greater Wellington community to become more involved in sport and active recreation. Sport Wellington have organised the iconic event since 1999 and during that period has overseen an 814% growth in participation.
Wellington-based Cigna, who were named as the principal sponsor in 2015, continue to have a strong commitment to the communities in which Round the Bays operates, and the partnership fits well with the company’s focus on supporting New Zealanders with their health and wellbeing.
Cigna NZ CEO Lance Walker is looking forward to another fantastic day of family fun and fitness. “We’re excited to be the principal sponsor of Round the Bays for the second year. At Cigna we are fully committed to supporting Kiwis to lead healthier lifestyles, and Cigna Round the Bays is a great way to combine physical activity with spending time with friends and family,” says Lance.
Sport Wellington CEO Phil Gibbons says following the success of the first year with the Cigna team, Sport Wellington is committed to delivering an outstanding event in 2016. Phil says “Wellington is set for a busy period in February and we look forward to having over 14,000 people lining up on the day to take part in a very special event.”
“It was great to partner with Cigna for the 2015 event and we look forward to delivering an even bigger and better event to the region in 2016. Having the mutual goal of wanting to build a more active and healthy community and to give everyone the opportunity to participate is a winning formula for Sport Wellington and Cigna.”
Achilles New Zealand will be the Charity Partner for the event once again. Achilles NZ support disabled athletes to participate in mainstream running events. “The Achilles athletes are an inspiration for us all and such a great fit to show that Cigna Round the Bays is an event for everyone in the community.” Gibbons adds.
Cigna Round the Bays will be held on Sunday, 21st February 2016 on Wellington’s waterfront with registrations opening on Monday, 19th October. The event will once again feature three distance options including the 6.5km Fun Run from Frank Kitts to Kilbirnie Park, the ever popular 10km and the Cigna Achilles Half Marathon. It is recommended that participants register early to secure their spot at the start line with registrations opening 2 weeks earlier than in previous years.
