Katie Thompson Selected to Represent Oceania in Global Music Project
Nominee for Female Artist of the Year at the upcoming Country Music Awards New Zealand (CMANZ), and rising star Katie
Thompson has been selected to represent the continent of Oceania in Vienna this August as part of a global music project
being run by worldwide music platform, Global Rockstar.
Global Rockstars Unitedbrings together six artists from six continents to collaborate and produce a music single, video clip and documentary in
the space of five short days to demonstrate the ability of music to transcend physical borders and differences.
Katie was selected to be part of the project after placing 6th in the world out of 8000 artist entries from 140
countries in the world’s largest online music contest conducted by Global Rockstar in 2014. She will be flown to Vienna
to work alongside five other international artists from August 10, and is excited at the prospect to say the least.
“It’s an honour to represent my continent on such a global scale, and for such a positive project. I can’t wait to see
what we come up with, and to share it with everyone back home,” says Katie.
Katie Thompson has enjoyed ongoing success in her music career, having released two successful albums and a live EP,
toured New Zealand extensively, won the Top Artist prize on emerging artist platform Artist Signal in 2014, opened for
Sir Elton John at his New Zealand show in November 2011 and been a finalist for Female Artist of the Year at the 2012
New Zealand Country Music Awards.
The resulting single, video clip and documentary will be released internationally on 1 September 2015, to coincide with
the relaunch of Global Rockstar’s 2015 online music contest.
