Mosaic at Mount Maunganui is once again organizing Tauranga’s hugely popular Easter in the Park. For the past three years, the Easter Sunday event, run by over 100 volunteers, has given families a free enjoyable community outing.
From 10am to 1pm on Sunday 5th April, Coronation Park at the Mount will be alive with activity, food and music. There will be a free sausage sizzle (serving 3000 sausages), bacon and egg sandwiches (serving 1500), expresso coffee (3000), fruit salad (2000), hot cross buns (1500), candy floss and hot chocolate. The event will also feature 13 bouncy castles, some for all ages, including a mechanical bull, mechanical surfboard, “chair-o-plane”, slides, and a giant obstacle challenge course.
Children's entertainer extraordinaire Degen Prodger, as the 'Faster Chef', will delight the crowd with a hilarious interactive cooking class. The special kid’s stage area will also be flanked by craft tables and free face painting.
Local bands ‘TheYoung Ones’ and ‘Lounge Dogs’ will deliver live entertainment.
At the 2014 Easter in the Park, the weather kept some away dropping numbers to 5500 but this year, the crowd is expected to soar to over 7000.
Mosaic church pastor Joel Milgate said the church decided the best way to celebrate the story of Jesus and the meaning behind Easter was to give to the local community. "Easter in the Park is about sharing the goodness and generosity of Easter with our community. Our community inspires us."
Mosaic is known in Tauranga for being a group of generous people who help set up community gardens, run youth programmes, organize house makeovers and help with community meals. In 2014, the Mosaic music band won the Best Gospel Christian Album in the 2014 NZ Vodafone Music Awards with their second album ‘You Surround’.
Mount Mainstreet manager Peter Melgren says “Mount Mainstreet is proud to support Easter in the Park. I’ve watched this event grow from its inception in 2012 when I was the city events manager for Tauranga, and it provides a wonderful range of activity and entertainment for the community.”
Easter in the Park is being held from 10am – 1pm on Easter Sunday 5th April at Coronation Park, Mount Maunganui. Everything is free, and the event is suitable for children, parents and grandparents.
