Father & Son FastWord Game App Wins Early Plaudits
A new word game app hatched by New Zealand dad Ryan Pellett and his son 5-year-old son Christian has been getting top plaudits from overseas game reviewers and has passed the 1000 download mark in its first week.
The game had its origins in the fact that having beaten all-comers at Scrabble, Christian – also known as “Mister Five” - was fast needing a new challenge, so basically invented his own – with Dad’s help of course.
Armed with a crayon, Mister Five and Dad set to on designing an app, and their jourey is well documented at www.my-5-year-old-beats-me-at-scrabble.com/blog
Word on the street - well Mister Five's street to begin with - is that FastWord delivers more than enough explicit speed and competitive challenge to hold up to comparisons with Ruzzle, Boggle or indeed Scrabble. Playtesting was over last month and the proof will now be in the uptake and tactical gameplay of FastWord word-gamers all over the world - for FastWord’s robustly designed point scoring, disappearing tiles and unique chasing of the clock.
David and Stas, the developer team at Sliday (www.sliday.com) can take a bow for their part in bringing FastWord to market, and dad Ryan can reflect on how, while Mister Five isn't choosing to be involved in the mechanics of the app’s wider success, the best news is he LOVES the game.
Ryan: "Ask Mister Five to help out on it now and he'd rather clean his room .. but he'd happily play FastWord whenever he can because that's a different thing to him. As a dad how cool is it that an idea my child had will now be an actual game sitting on a smartphone that he can actually play. It's a great feeling!"

FastWord – A Fast, Smart & Strategic Word Game to Play with Friends.
Question: What do you get when you combine a precocious five-year-old's talent for word games with a father's aptitude for working on projects?
Answer: A mobile word game app turned around from the lounge room floor to the Apple Store, and ready to play with friends in the magic number of 101 days. Or more accurately a labour of love, and a very special bonding experience.
Challenge friends or random opponents in a unique new game where the race is on to make as many words as possible before the letters disappear. Take your time and make longer words for a bigger score, or go for speed in the hope of shutting your opponent down. The choice is yours.
Create words from a grid of letters in ANY order you want. But try to USE them before you LOSE them.
Matches are played in two rounds. Each player takes a turn starting a round and a turn finishing a round. We call this Leading and Chasing. When chasing, the letters on your grid will disappear according to when the leading player used them, so use them quickly and be sure to use them wisely.
When leading, make longer words for a larger score, or go for short words in the hope of shutting your opponent down. The choice is yours.
FastWord is 100% FREE
