Navy Band Celebrates 200 Years of Sax
The Royal New Zealand Navy Band celebrates 200 years since the birth of the saxophone’s inventor, with a concert at Holy
Trinity Cathedral in May.
One of the world’s most popular instruments, the saxophone was invented by Aldophe Sax, who was born in Belgium in 1814.
The RNZN Band will honour the instrument and the inventor in a concert featuring one of the world’s greatest exponents
of the instrument, Niels Bijl.
The international guest artist has performed with many of the major orchestras in Europe including the Royal
Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Rotterdam Philharmonic, as well as performing and teaching numerous countries.
Bijl will feature alongside the Navy Band’s own saxophonists playing an array of entertaining quirky and soulful music,
spiced up with the fantastic antics of the Navy Band in full force!
