O’Reilly Rolls On in Australia
New Zealand’s leading sire O’Reilly was once again producing stakes winners in Australia with his two-year-old son Merion (NZ) (O’Reilly) tasting victory in the Listed A$120,000 Anzac Day Stakes (1410m) at Flemington on Friday.
O'Reilly has sired 15 stakes winners this season.
Waikato Stud sire O’Reilly has been riding a crest of a wave this season and is on track to defend his leading sire crown in New Zealand. The son of Last Tycoon is the sire of 15 stakes winners in New Zealand and Australia this season and sits sixth on the Australia’s leading sires table.
O’Reilly has sired the likes of Group 1 Ranvet Stakes and Group 1 BMW Stakes winner Silent Achiever (NZ) and Group 1 Doncaster Handicap winner Sacred Falls (NZ) in Australia this year.
Merion, a Karaka Premier Sale graduate, saluted for his first stakes victory at only his second start and remains unbeaten having won on debut, beating $1.975m Karaka Premier Sale graduate Eastern Cape (Fastnet Rock).

Kiwis in Command in Singapore
Karaka graduates Knight’s Command (NZ) (Pins) and Speedy Cat (NZ) (Scaredee Cat) produced an upset as they ran the quinella in the Sgp-3 S$150,000 Admiralty Classic Stakes (1600m) last night at Kranji.

Trained by ex-pat kiwi trainer Bruce Marsh, Knight’s Command entered the race as the winner of his last two starts over 1600m but was stepping up in grade and taking on highly rated horses Slew of Lode (Lode) and Corboda (Exeed and Excel) who dominated the betting.
Marsh retained the services of apprentice jockey Zuriman Zulkifli who was aboard the son of Pins for his last two wins even though he could not utilise his claim in the race.
Zuriman let his mount stride to sit outside the leader and race-favourite Slew of Lode in a moderately run race. It was evident Knight’s Command had the race-favourite in trouble and he surged to the front with 200m to go. Speedy Cat tried valiantly to chase down Knight’s Command but the six-year-old gelding was too strong, winning by three-quarters of a length for a delighted Zuriman.
