‘The Great Hoax’s 1st Full Length LP : ‘Swampland Swing’
The Great Hoax AKA Nick Swanson returns in 2014 with his first full length Lp ‘Swampland Swing’.
The Great Hoax started in Wellington in 2007 playing Leonard Cohen covers and their own material locally as a two piece. In 2011 when ‘the hoax’ became a one piece Nick Swanson carried on playing solo gigs in Wellington eventually moving to Auckland and playing at ‘The Kings Arms’ and ‘Backbeat’.
‘Swampland Swing’ is a collection of old and new songs featuring ‘Puppy’ {Shapes 2009}, ‘Lonesome Town{acoustic}’ and ‘Pop That Collar’ {Imitation red sky 2012}, ‘Decent Lying lady’ {Dark Matter 2013} and new tracks “What I want’, ‘Festival’, and ‘Gamblin man’..plus many more.
The album takes its name from ‘Swamp music’ ie the music of New Orleans swampland’s with added beats/grooves and slick wit.
The album’s lyrics and themes include capitalism, envy, lust, greed, revenge, witch craft, voo doo, and vampirism- {the opening track ‘Lestat de Lioncourt’ a tribute to Tom cruise’s character from 1994’s ‘Interview with the Vampire’.
