Wellington’s famous Fringe Festival heads to the Hutt
The famous grassroots arts and culture Fringe Festival has added Hutt City to its programme for 2014.
This year organisers worked with Hutt City Council to make venues available to give Hutt residents access to the bizarre, fantastic, fun, touching, new, weird, experimental, beyond the pale Fringe.
Performances in Hutt City include Orchestra Wellington’s ‘Baby Pops’ – a tour of the farm through classical music where kids can gallop with William Tell, dance to Mussorgsky’s Ballet of the Little Chicks in their Shells, crack the whip with Rawhide and help conduct the orchestra.
Interactive sound experiences, pop-up art around the city, drama and circus arts that feature fire are all part of the Festival in the Hutt.
Pippa Sanderson, Hutt City Council’s Community Arts and Culture Advisor says, “The Fringe Festival is one of Wellington’s most well-loved community art events and we have so many great venues here that it was a no-brainer to encourage artists to perform in Hutt City.
“We’re really excited to have local artists show their work in their community and to welcome new performers to the Hutt.”
The Fringe Festival runs from 7 Feb – 2 March 2014 at various locations. Find out more about the shows, their times and charges on the dedicated Hutt Fringe Festival page at: www.fringe.co.nz/hutt
