Lois McIvor, Making the World Look New, at the Remuera Gallery
Lois McIvor unveils a body of new work, along with a retrospective of previously unseen paintings.
The exhibition will run from 20 June- 5 July 2013, with an opening function Saturday 29 June at 3pm
Born in New Zealand in 1930, Lois McIvor studied at Elam School of Fine Arts, Auckland; and later under the tutelage of
Colin McCahon - who became her dear friend and mentor. Predominantly a landscape painter, she was a founding member of
the Association of Women Artists and has a seminal place in New Zealand's art history. We are proud to present Lois
McIvor at the Remuera Gallery.
Artist Statement:
The area that I am living in now is called Hillcrest, sheltered from the more busy regions of the North Shore. It is
surrounded by trees and takahi groups that come up from the sides of the valley. When I first became interested in this
area, I read a newspaper article about a group of people who were planting trees around their homes and throughout the
community. Over the years many of these people have moved on, but the trees are here still; and at night the skies are
lovely. My latest paintings depict these surroundings, making the world look new.
