PRESS RELEASE
Lisa Allpress’ Breakthrough Day
Champion jockey Lisa Allpress became the first woman to ride 1000 winners in New Zealand today.
Allpress reached the milestone aboard the David Haworth/Matt Dixon trained Kekova in the $50,000 Pioneer Finance Wairarapa Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes race at Tauherenikau.
One of the proudest punters watching on was All Blacks great Christian Cullen who recently signed Allpress to his sports management company Christian Cullen Management Group.
“We couldn’t be happier for Lisa,” Cullen said.
“She is the ultimate professional.
“We all marvel at her ability as a jockey but to reach the milestone and to create history the way she has is extraordinary.
“And people forget that she does all this while being a devoted mum as well.
“It doesn’t matter where she is in New Zealand. After a day’s racing, if it possible for her to get home to her boys, she will.”
Allpress’ first win came way back in 1996 at the Taranaki Thoroughbred Racing Club.
That first victory came via the Kevin and Stephen Gray trained Final Forecast.
Allpress will look to add to her tally this weekend (as New Zealand’s most successful female jockey) at Te Rapa where her rides will include Quintessential, Cassini, A’Larose, Cat Woman, Supreme Lady, Take Charge and Coercion.
