MSVA presents Godspell
MIT School of Performing Arts will present its spring production Godspell on September 6, 7 and 8 at 7:30pm at the
Spotlight Theatre in Tavern Lane, Papatoetoe, Manukau.
The play, backed with live music, has a fresh and contemporary feel.
Directors Cat Ruka and Jason Te Mete have utilized a variety of choreographic and theatrical methods.
The second year students who perform it have contributed heavily to the creative process and use Godspell to make it a
modern story about the difficulties and triumphs that young people face today.
Godspell, based loosely on the Gospels and parables of Jesus Christ, remains one of the most popular sweet rock musicals
of all time.
A musical conceived and written by John Michael Tebelak with lyrics and music by Stephen Schwartz, follows the story of
Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew and features some of the best-loved songs from modern musicals, including Day By Day and
All For the Best.
The design team includes: Choreographer Cat Ruka, Musical Director Jason Te Mete, Costume Designer Cat Ruka, Lighting
Designer Paul Richardson, and the Stage Manager is Cath Dickey and Producer Padma Akula.
