Sione's 2 Wins At Australian Movie Convention
Sione’s 2: Unfinished Business has today received the Australian Movie Convention award for highest grossing New Zealand movie.
The film, which was released in January 2012, set a new record for a New Zealand film in its opening weekend earning more than $775,000 within the first four days of its release. With a box office total of almost $1.8 million Sione’s 2: Unfinished Business shares a spot in the all-time top 10 grossing New Zealand films along with its predecessor Sione’s Wedding.
This is the second year in a row that a South Pacific Pictures feature film has taken out the Australian Movie Convention award for highest grossing New Zealand movie. In 2011, the trophy was awarded to South Pacific Pictures for the cross-cultural romantic comedy My Wedding and Other Secrets. Both pictures were distributed by South Pacific Pictures and Sony Pictures NZ.
In May 2012, Sione’s 2: Unfinished Business also received the gong for highest grossing local film at the NZ Motion Picture Industry Convention.
