The Great NZ Muster: Te Radar Front Man for Shearing Capitals Rural Extravaganza
Well known kiwi funny man, Te Radar will be communing with everything sheep-like and rural as he fronts Te Kuiti’s
infamous street festival “The Great NZ Muster” later this month.
The festival which celebrates Te Kuiti’s self proclaimed title “Shearing Capital of New Zealand” is turning 20 this year
and organizers say who better to front this unique event then a man who is as quirky and kiwi as “The Great NZ Muster”.
Described as an award winning satirist, documentary maker, writer, failed gardener, television presenter and amateur
historian. Te Radar says other than that he really does very little.
As the musters celebrity MC, Te Radar will jump in gumboots and all introducing the main acts on the centre stage and
roving around the event.
He’ll get up close and personal with some coloured racing sheep, spin a few yarns with eccentric characters, then grab
some clippers and try his hand at shearing. He’ll munch down in the smoko hut on mutton delights created by Beef and
Lamb New Zealand’s Platinum Ambassador from Palate Restaurant in Hamilton, Mat McLean.
But most importantly Te Radar will help build-up the tension for the highly anticipated main event – the world largest
sheep run, “The New Zealand Shears Can-Am Running of the Sheep” which sees approximately 2000 sheep let loose to run
down the main street of Te Kuiti at 2pm.
Spokesperson Rebecca Whitehead from Waitomo District Council said it’ll be great having Te Radar as our celebrity MC for
our anticipated record crowds.
“Te Radar will just put that extra topping on a great family day out. As it’s our 20th birthday, we’ve literally lifted
the gateposts, bringing in more street entertainment, zany displays, returning with favourites from past years and of
course doing everything we can think of to celebrate everything sheep like.”
The Great NZ Muster runs from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 31 March and coincides with the final day of the NZ Shearing
Championships. The Running of the Sheep will be happening from 2pm.
